I see VGK scored more than 2 goals on Bob last night.

Yeah, and a dumb highstick goal.
They should just pull that high stick nonsense out. Who cares?
Is it there to "protect the players" so guys aren't getting into sword fights? It's so arbitrary too: "oh, Stone was leaning over, so yeah it's ok". |

According to Bettman, cap is only going up 1$M this year.
There go all the expensive free agent options. |

The Leafs have almost 10 mil in cap space with 17 players signed for next year before they do anything with Murray. They weren't relying on the cap going up a ton. |

Leafs will rely on some of the Marlies players playing with the big clubs on low cap hits |

That's not a lot. At least not enough to improve in any likely fashion.
Thing is, most of our guys already had good cap hits. Some are going to get worse, and we're right back to mixing and matching the fringe players, with only budget contracts available.
I get some might be willing to go the discount route (not saying the team isn't still as much a contender as last year), but it's hardly something you can rely on.

They have $9.1 million in cap space and only have 16 guys signed including Robertson, Muzzin, and Murray (only Murray’s salary counts against the cap atm). Leaves an average of about $1 million each to fill the roster to 23. |

40 million x 7 years, not a bad haul. |

The list I just looked into does say 9.1 but it specifies 17 players signed. I do see Robertson on that list, hard to say he's an NHLer next year.
Perspective I guess. Because I see a largely filled out roster there which once they presumably find a home for Murray equates to 13.85 million before making any other changes at all. 14.85 million with the assumed 1 million cap increase.
If they opt to buyout Murray's last year, his buyout would include a 600k cap hit for next season, that puts them at 14.25 million in space prior to making any other changes.
That's about as good a spot as any team in the league would be in with all of their high end players signed for the year. You're talking 3-4 depth guys and a bunch of fun tickets.
The list I'm looking at also includes Jake Muzzin sucking up 5.625 million of that space. Yeah, the leafs are in a pretty good spot. |

Sorry about that, you’re correct with 17.
3-4 starting roster depth guys, still need the backups, I know Dubas skimmed it last year but that’s the sort of thing that gets guys hurt as well. Guess we’ll see how the new guy handles that.
As for the goalie why does everyone think he’ll be east to move? Who’s going to take him? The leafs can’t buy him out either because even though he’s only be about a $700K cap hit for the upcoming season he is also a $2 million dollar one for the following year which is the same year they need to resign Nylander and Matthews. I’m hating to say this but I won’t be shocked if the leafs have to roll with him this year, and even if they do get rid of him they’ll have to spend as much on a new starter. |

You probably cannot afford .. unless they decide they want a discount... ROR or Acciari or Kampf, Bunting or Kerfoot.
Most all want Holl gone. Gio is no more than a 6th at this point. If that.
Gus probably gets 2 mil + from someone. Luke also would need to take a discount to stay.
That 13 gets sucked up quick.

Then you are trading your youngest D man a regular .. who happens to be RH as well. Besides 24 yr old Timmins who isn't a regular... the next youngest D man is 5 yrs older.. I'm don't see that as sound strategy.

I get it... who ???? not another F .. and hopefully not a LHD. Also need someone better for a very reasonable 1.4 a yr.
I just don't see anyone that is better for his skill set and price being available.
